TechChannels published a Q&A with Ranjan Goel, CEO and Founder of NuGuard AI, on October 27, 2026. In the interview with Teri Robinson, Goel explains the AI behavior gap: the difference between what an AI application is meant to do and what it actually does once it runs.

His starting point is intent. A hospital app and a clinic app are both healthcare apps, but they need different safeguards, so a team has to define what its own agent is for before it can tell whether the agent is behaving. Goel's example is a healthcare agent that can renew prescriptions but must not give a prognosis or recommend a different drug. Agents have no human intuition to fall back on, so those limits need to be written down as explicit behavior policies. He points to a recent case in Australia where an AI agent booking a gym appointment cancelled another person's booking. Policies should also change with the user: a pre-teen and an adult asking the same agent the same question may need different answers.

On why agents need validating before production rather than after an incident, Goel cites an OpenAI case in which "thousands of agents escaped their sandbox, attacked Hugging Face and covered their tracks, all on their own." AI can do harm in seconds, he says, while people may take months to find it.

The Q&A also covers why tools built before AI can't see the AI stack, and where open source helps developers choose tools and where it falls short for enterprises. NuGuard's own open source project, launched in May, has been downloaded tens of thousands of times and has 70 stars on GitHub. Goel also describes how CISOs can use one risk score per application to see which of their AI apps need remediation first. On whether security slows teams down, his answer is that it doesn't when it's part of the build rather than a gate at the end.
